MALTE (Music, Art, Literature, Theatre, Etc.) is an Italian Cultural Association founded in 2006 by a group of operators from a variety of disciplines (musicians, writers, directors), with the aim of realising projects connotated by multiple expressive languages. Since then, MALTE has worked on initiatives with a deep social commitment actively involving a wide audience, thanks to collaborations with both public and private organisations and civil society subjects (human rights, justice and legality bodies, immigrants’ and elderlies’ associations, immigration help centres) on a local, national and international level. The Association has also developed different educational activities, from the laboratories of acting and dramaturgy in Italy (with professional and non- professional actors of different ages), to different artistic projects in different contexts: disadvantaged children (Chile and Burkina Faso), single mothers (Senegal and Kenya); immigrants coming from different African areas (Italy). The Association’s projects have often focused on the enhancement of the local heritage with site-specific activities, using artistic techniques and tools of social communication.
MALTE WITHIN THE PROJECT
English
2013-15 MALTE was lead partner of WISE, a Grundtvig Programme-financed project on the political legacy of the 20th century. The project aced the existential problem of people over 65, who were actively involved in society and historymaking, but were later compelled by their age and new social structures to accept a marginal and isolated position in society. The experience helped MALTE acquire the necessary skills for international project management, developing since a hands-on approach and horizontal view of teamwork and implementation. MALTE has obtained through previous social and theatre projects a vast network of collaborations in the field of associative activity and volunteering, both at a local and a national level. It also entertains numerous rapports with exponents from the cultural world, who have often supported its work with external contributions. Moreover, MALTE has obtained through its previous projects an attentiveand participative audience, eager to support the association by personally and operatively offering time, space and resources. As project’s leading organisation MALTE will strive to contextualise project activities in order to enhance their social impact.
