Since 2009, Sens Interdits festival has been inviting artists from all horizons, in a constantly changing world. Using theatre as a weapon, their voices, often oppressed, take over the stage as a space of freedom and defy oblivion and taboos.
It is a theatre of urgency, a profoundly political theatre that tells the world, illuminates the present and helps to build the future!
Sens Interdits is a place for multicultural discovery and confrontation of aesthetics as well as a debating forum. This international theatre Festival will come to its 12th edition in 2023. Conceived in partnership with a vast network of local venues and theatres in Lyon and its surrounding areas, Sens Interdits offers more than 20 shows per edition, promoting political theater and plays coming from all over the world, and stressing 3 main themes: memories, Identities and resistance. Since its creation in 2009, the festival invited many artists in exile and programmed several plays and debates talking about various aspects of migrations. Exhibitions, screenings, debates, musical events contribute to the experience.
Sens Interdits festival and its outreach activities are aimed for a wide audience, and tries more particularly to raise awareness of the youth and foreign communities. Through its international dimension, the Festival aims to promote intercultural dialogue and the involvement of the civil society in the public debate. Many artistic and cultural workshops and master classes have been implemented since the creation of Sens Interdits, for amateurs, students or professionals, young people or adults, through educational and non formal educational programs.
