Since 2009, boat people projekt has been working as a free theatre in Göttingen in various constellations with a focus on the topic of flight and migration. The seven-member “core team” works with various stage artists, some of whom are increasingly involved in the overall conception and development of the label. In terms of content, we deal with socio-political issues and the question of the possibilities of political theatre. The label strives for comprehensive diversity in its programme and in the composition of its artistic teams and partners. boat people projekt works together to find forms and narrative strategies to make theatre an experience for a diverse audience. boat people projekt has received numerous awards, including the Hanns Lilje Foundation Initiative Prize in 2015, the Göttinger Friedenspreis (“Price of Peace”) in 2016, the Federal Theatre Prize in 2019 and the Lower Saxony Integration Prize in 2020.
